Energy Boosters – Small Things You Can Do Daily To Bump Up Your Energy Levels

Uh oh… it’s the afternoon and you’re starting to feel tired and groggy, but you still have three more hours of work ahead of you. This is something that happens to a lot of people, including myself at times. So what can you do to help boost your energy levels and keep pushing through the day? I’ll cut to the point and give you some common and not-so-common things you can do to bump up your energy levels, as you’re probably already drained of energy while reading this.

1. Stay Hydrated

Make sure you’re drinking lots of water throughout the day! You lose up to 2 liters of water a day from natural body processes, so you need to keep supplying your body with it. Your body uses water for digestion and transporting nutrients throughout your body, so get drinking! A good rule of thumb is to drink half of your body weight, in ounces of water. Therefore, if you weigh 150 pounds, drink 75 ounces of water per day! Staying hydrated will keep you awake and keep you going throughout your busy day!

2. Make Yourself A Midday Smoothie

Who doesn’t like smoothies?! Alright, some people don’t. But if you’re looking for an energy boost midday, try making yourself a healthy smoothie. Put items like spinach, berries, chia seeds, greek yogurt, and vegetable juice in your smoothie. Spinach is loaded with vitamins and fiber, but most importantly for when you’re feeling tired, it is loaded with iron, which will surely perk you up a bit! Chia seeds contain the essential fatty acids (Omega-3 and Omega-6), which will fight off your fatigue. Greek yogurt contains twice as much protein as other yogurts, and will help you from falling asleep on your desk.

3. Get Up & Move Or Stretch It Out

Get out of your chair and walk around for 10 minutes! Get up and stretch for a few minutes to wake yourself up! Or, my personal favorite, turn on some upbeat music and just sort of dance at your desk while working. Show off your embarrassing desk dance moves to coworkers, who cares, you’re going to boost your energy and have fun while doing it!

4. The Obvious: Drink Coffee & Herbal Tea

Yes, this one is fairly obvious, but let’s face it… caffeinated drinks like coffee and certain herbal tea will definitely wake you up! The only setback is making sure you’re only drinking caffeinated drinks in moderation. You don’t want to drink too much coffee, crack yourself out, and then crash an hour later. Just stick to a 1-3 cups a day if you can, and try to never drink coffee too late in the afternoon.

5. Chew Gum & Rub Your Ears

Well, maybe not at the same time because people might think you’re weird. The mere act of chewing increases blood flow to the brain and increases your heart rate, keeping you awake. Rubbing your ears in the right places (do the research) will calm your nervous system and give you a boost in energy!
