What You Can Learn From Watching Movies & T.V. Shows

Since it’s the weekend, I wanted to have a little bit of fun with this post. As the title says, I want to talk about what you can learn from watching movies and T.V. shows. Sounds dumb right? But really, you can learn a lot by watching movies and T.V. shows (in moderate amounts). Watching shows is a great way to escape from reality and pass the time, so how can we use this time spent watching to learn something while still enjoying the show?

Let’s discuss some of the things I have learned, and believe you can learn, through watching T.V. & movies. Aside from not going into that dark room where the terrifying demonic sound just came from. Just kidding. But seriously, don’t go in the room.

You Can Accomplish More As A Team

I’m fairly certain that every movie and T.V. show I have ever seen has more than one person in it. I’m also fairly certain, that in most of these movies, people are constantly helping each other in order to reach goals. This is no different in real life. Think of all the times you have been a member of a team at work or school. Now think of how much more time it would have taken to accomplish everything you did as part of the team, by yourself. Two… three times longer? Possibly even more? Working as a team is a huge timesaver, but it’s also a great way to spread ideas and engage your creative side. Therefore, next time you’re stuck or need help, don’t be afraid to ask for some help!

Success Does NOT Come Easy – You Have To Work Hard

Possibly the most important lessons to take away from watching shows and movies. Movies such as The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, The Social Network, October Sky, etc., have all shown that the successful people whom we look up to and admire, actually worked their ass off to get where they are. Hence, you should be prepared to work your ass off if you want to achieve your goals. Success is not going to be handed to you on a silver platter.

You’ll Learn New Vocabulary & New Information!

This is my personal favorite benefit of watching movies and T.V. shows. Watching shows and movies is a great way to learn new vocabulary and interesting information about the world. Movies and shows can teach you about history, science, religion, engineering, politics, and even how to crack some funny jokes! I always have subtitles on while watching something the tube. It allows me to catch certain words and pieces of information that I would completely miss if I were just listening. I highly suggest to anyone who is knowledge hungry to always have subtitles on while watching something.

Movies & Shows Will Encourage You To Chase Dreams & See The World

How many times have you been watching a movie and felt a sudden burst of energy to do something productive? Motivation is an important starting point for anyone who is trying to work towards their goals, and movies/shows can give you that initial burst of energy. Movies and shows will also encourage you to get off your butt and go see the world! Movies take place in a variety of beautiful, amazing locations that just make you want to leave your house and explore! By doing so, you will expand your knowledge and become much more cultured, obtaining a different perspective on life.

Family Is Important

Unfortunately, it’s true. Circumstances may be different for some people, and by all means if your family if filled with the worst people you’ve ever known, then you probably should not talk to them. But for most people, family is just a little bit annoying and embarrassing sometimes. Stick it out though, because at the end of the day they are the people who will ultimately support you and any endeavors you go on.

So try to utilize the time you spend watching your favorite flicks. Use your imagination and take away what you can from your favorite shows. There is so much to learn from them!!!
